Sikkim Mountains by Sujoy Das
" Our moon was almost full.. the nearer snows were but faint and indistinct, while between their pale shadowy masses the whole peak of Kangchenjunga was fully illuminated as by a heavenly seachlight. The rock and ice were transfigured into a silver shrine, a visionary emblem of purity and aspiration. The worship of Kangchenjunga at that moment seemed very reasonable service." Round Kangchenjunga by Douglas Freshfield 1899.

A tour operator who resigned from his Government job to follow his dream to be a tour operator in the Himalayan State of Sikkim is Satish Bardewa who is less active in tour packages (these days) but more focused in developing tourism skills amongst our Children in School and Colleges.
Born in Sikkim, grew up playing with nature and butterflies. After graduation I joined a as a Geography teacher in a remote village called Yuksam-which is also the first capital of Sikkim during 1641 AD. My interest in nature conservation and adventure tempted me to explore places and I decided to establish an adventure and leisure travel company in 1991. This company named Yak and Yeti Travels reflects the message of Himalayan people and its culture and lives on sharing the joy of exploration and our lasting happiness in conservation of our natural resources through the sustainable tourism in Sikkim.
Support sustainable tourism to help our local economy grow through tourism, help each other to learn and grow in a friendly and joyful manner is what I learned in my later years, also learned to help governmental policies for sustainable tourism growth and polish them through our experience and expertise. But to my priority learning it was to ensure maximum comfort and safety to our guest with available amenities and circumstances. In a nutshell…not to compete each other but to learn and share the experience from each other and to introduce Sikkim to the outside world by sharing and offering our rich cultural heritage, our way of life and simplicity of our thinking but not compromising with our service quality, guest comfort, environmental damage and our inability to handle the risk factor as an when it may arise.
Our action is oriented towards the International Understanding in mankind and global friendship through tourism and help bring peace to the world through a common understanding of our nature and culture of the Earth- the planet most of us have taken it for granted for being living and blessing planet. Its blessing because we all care for it, it dramatic because we all are indisputable part it, its beautiful because like us you care for it. We all share one home –the Earth- (the only living planet-which gives us life in different dimensions)- and the differences in our language, our custom, our tradition, our way of life and our thoughts and our technology is re-put to our Montessori times with the immortal magic of the Himalayas. Our Nature, Culture and Adventure will always live on with our sense of discovery, curiosity, analysis and judgment of adventure in ourselves.
This very feeling and inquisitiveness and sense of discovery in our team has helped us to meet different people from different parts of the world and the people we work with and with the people we meet in our organization is our “KARMA”. – (Basically explained in connection to the conduct of our former lives).
Our team has committed to be a part of your past and your present in global understanding of making but will you be having time to be a part of us is a bigger question today!

North Sikkim sharing tour package to Yumgthang valley Zero point Lachen Gurudongmar Lachung Yumesamdong
The shared trip cost
for two nights three days to North Sikkim can vary depending upon your tour operator
and the services they can offer including that of their assistance before your
arrival to Sikkim.
The room heaters are not included, however warm blankets are adequately provided with simple both veg and on veg meals. Visit to Zero point- Yumesamdong does not come as a part of the package.
An additional charge in order to visit Zero point (depending upon the road conditions) can be further booked with your driver. Shared tour to North Sikkim can be too adventurous and generally not comfortable given the conditions of the hotels and vehicle.
This trip can be full of fun meeting new people and to get to experience an upbeat-stay; an overall a rustic experience. You are likely to meet a life long friend on this trip, if you are lucky!

Sikkim taxi booking- Darjeeling car hire- Bagdogra airport pick up
Sikkim taxi booking
can be made with Yak and Yeti Travels with enough advance time to avail best
transport rates inn Sikkim and Darjeeling. We also offer airport taxis for pick
up and Sikkim car for drop.
The
transport rates in Bagdogra, Sikkim and Darjeeling are not static and depends
on the Seasons, route, type of car etc.
For a small
family, it is suggested to use a Wagon- R as to have the overall transport cost
with the budget limit, however small car does not go into North Sikkim package
tour due to road conditions.
For a visit
to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir, a small car is ideal solution for a family size
up to four persons as the same can come to your hotel for pick up & drop.
As per Sikkim
traffic norms, TATA SUMO, BOLERO, Mahindra Maxx kind of car is not allowed to come
to your hotel for Gangtok sight seeing, pick up or drop. Mahindra Xylo and Innova
are allowed to come to your hotel for pick up & drop but upon the condition
parking is available at your hotel or nearby.
Mahindra Xylo
and Innova falls into luxury car segment. The transport system, fares still
remains unregulated so during the Season the transport hike can just shoot sky-
rocketing, therefore, it is suggested to the Guests to book the transport well
in advance. We suggest the Guest to send us e-mail about the Car hire requirements
for Sikkim and Darjeeling and New Japlaiguri Railway Station (NJP) mention the
type of car that is required and also mentioning the total number of persons
coming on the Sikkim-Darjeeling trip, as Wagon R can carry total four
passengers, Xylo and Innova is allowed to carry only Seven passengers, TATA
Sumo, Mahindra Maxx and Bolero can carry 10 passengers however you will receive
the services from taxi stand. Such cars having the capacity of carrying of 10
passengers can only offer services from a designated taxi stand only. In
general, the drivers are reluctant to use AC in their cars during a hilly ride,
please mention if you intend to use AC on a particular day. The small car for a
visit to Nathu-la pass can depend upon the road conditions and as guided by the
permit norms from Permit authorities.
We suggest the
Guest to send us the day wise tour itinerary by email to sikkim@yahoo.com

altitude of 3,780 m (12,400 ft). on ancient trade route between
Gangtok Nathu La Pass. The lake is about 1 km. Long, oval in shape, 15 meters

Brahminy ducks. It's cool, placid water harmonizes with the scenic beauty around.
A small temple of lord Siva is constructed on the lakeside . This placid lake
remains frozen during the winter months up to mid-May. Between May and August

of Rhododendrons and Primulas, Blue and Yellow Poppies, Irises etc. It is also
an ideal habitat for the Red panda- The State Animal of Sikkim along with

Nathu La Pass
Nathula Pass was one of the most important routes of trade between the silk traders from Tibet and Sikkim before it was closed in 1962. Located around 56 kms from Gangtok at an altitude of 14450 ft, the road to Nathula passes through the Tsomgo lake. It is one of the highest motorable roads in the world and is richly surrounded by alpine flora. On a clear day you can even see the road winding down the Chumbi valley. Presently only Domestic Tourists are allowed to go close to the international border from where you can see and extend your handshake with Chinese soldiers on the other side.

By: Simran Kapoor
Well, what should I begin with, there is so much to do in Sikkim that any amount of days would be less !! It’s a beautiful place with Snow Capped Mountains that will leave you awestruck and breathtaking landscapes that will compel you to do some soul searching !! Sikkim is derived from the word Su-Khim which means New House and it is the abode of the Mountain Gods as it is situated in the Himalayas.
